Cardwell Spencer served years as the principal at Ford Elementary School in Dunbar and is the daughter of late State coach Mark Cardwell. She was a four-year starter on the women's swimming and basketball teams at State and was co-captain for three years in swimming and two in basketball. She also was on the tennis team.
