Volleyball Eliminated

WJU, A-B Advance To WVIAC Volleyball Tournament Title Match

(CHARLESTON, W.Va.)---Wheeling Jesuit and Alderson-Broaddus used differing paths, but each will emerge to meet in Saturday's WVIAC Volleyball Tournament title contest.  The top-seeded Cardinals needed less than an hour to sweep West Virginia State 25-16, 25-16, 25-19, while Alderson-Broaddus survived a five-set marathon to eliminate Shepherd 25-22, 21-25, 25-14, 21-25, 15-9.

Alderson-Broaddus (22-15) used a 6-0 burst to take control early in the decisive fifth set against Shepherd (21-12).  The Battlers were led by Amanda Check's 14 kills, while Annie Federoff notched 25 digs, and Samantha Wisbon dished out 49 assists.  Shepherd received a match-high 18 kills from Kasey Mercier.  Julie Robertson had 24 digs for the Rams.

Wheeling Jesuit (34-5) had few problems in picking up their 24th straight victory during the sweep of West Virginia State (16-12).  The Cards hit .300 as a team and got a dozen kills from Catie Halberstadt.  Allissa Ware added 11 kills.  Kristen Dubroy notched a double-double of 16 assists and a dozen digs, while chipping in three aces.

Saturday's title contest gets underway at 2:00 p.m.  Wheeling Jesuit took a 3-0 victory in the regular season meeting on October 7.
